I want to save from paying too much in PST, can you write me a lesser amount than I paid?

Appraisal Values depend on a number of factors including age, condition, total km, collision history etc. In most cases we have been able to save many clients  in unforeseen costs at time of transfer due to the actual appraised value of the vehicle being lesser than ICBC's value. You will pay taxes on which ever amount is determined to be more,  In the rare case our appraisal may be more than an ICBC valuation.

My car was in an accident, and ICBC is asking for an appraisal to support my claim. I don't have one from before the crash, can you do one now?

Unfortunately, This is a far too common question, and the answer is simple. No. It is important to always purchase a "Declared Value Policy"  for your investment, and have your vehicle appraised. This Policy will include the premiums necessary to keep your vehicle protected, and your Appraisal is your supporting documentation to verify the vehicle prior the to collision.

My friend and I have the same car, and his car isnt appraised and pays less premiums, why am I paying more?

A Valid Question. Without an appraisal the insurance company is using a genaric value to base your premiums. If your friend has a number of modifications, and has invested a fair amount of money into their vehicle they are likely not covered for all the additional investment. In a case of a total loss the insurance company will likely only offer a Blue Book Value. Your friend can not expect to be paying the same premiums as a base model vehicle with no modifications, but expect to be paid out for what they value the vehicle in a total loss condition. an Appraisal and a Declared Value are your best line of defense in supporting the value of your asset.
