Appraisal Values depend on a number of factors including age, condition, total km, collision history etc. In most cases we have been able to save many clients in unforeseen costs at time of transfer due to the actual appraised value of the vehicle being lesser than ICBC's value. A Valid Question. Without an appraisal the insurance company is using a genaric value to base your premiums. If your friend has a number of modifications, and has invested a fair amount of money into their vehicle they are likely not covered for all the additional investment. In a case of a total loss the insurance company will likely only offer a Blue Book Value. Your friend can not expect to be paying the same premiums as a base model vehicle with no modifications, but expect to be paid out for what they value the vehicle in a total loss condition. an Appraisal and a Declared Value are your best line of defense in supporting the value of your asset.
